Dear Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of the spring term we have many things to look forward to still within our school community, the Friends are helping the children get into the Easter spirit, we are all getting active for Sports Relief, our lunch times are developing to include more activities to participate in, we are planning our summer term program of after school and lunch clubs for the children to join and we are really pleased to have even more lovely new resources in our school.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the whole school community, including our parents and carers, for their support around the school's visit from Ofsted. For those of you who aren't aware of the process, the report from Ofsted will not be available for some time and it is difficult to predict how long this will take. As soon as it has been published we will share it with you and it will be available online.
SaFS (Student and Family Support) team held their SaFS and SEND coffee afternoon in the school hall on Tuesday, 13th March 2018. The team were really pleased to be able to provide support to all of our families who attended. If you would like more information about these coffee meetings, or have any suggestions about what you would like to see included in future meetings please e-mail the school office.
Norfolk County Music Festival
This week year two took part in the Norfolk County Music Festival, at St Andrew's Hall Norwich. We were extremely proud of their performance. They received a highly commended certificate and the adjudicator commented on their stage presence and enthusiasm. Both song choices, A Drop in the Ocean and Zip a dee do dah showcased their musicality. Thank you to all the parent helpers and our audience members for their support. It was a fantastic achievement!
Year One trip to Taverham Mill
Unfortunately we had to cancel our planned trip to Taverham Mill nature reserve today as the grounds were too water-logged to walk around in such a large group safely. We hope to rearrange this as the children were very excited about but in the meantime, the reserve is open both at the weekends and during the school holidays to any visitors, please visit their website https://anglianwaterparks.co.uk/taverham-mill for more information if you wished to visit as a family.
The school and nursery will be supporting this bi-annual fundraising event by walking/jogging/running a mile around the school field dressed in our sporting clothes with the appropriate footwear. Your child should have already brought home a sponsor form and we would be really grateful if you could return it to school by Friday 23rd March so that we can get all the funds raised to Sports Relief before we break up for the Easter holidays.
Friends of Nightingale
The Friends will be helping the children to celebrate Easter on Thursday 22nd March when the whole school and nursery are invited to come to school in their Easter disco clothes ready for the disco after school. Please check the recent letter from the Friends for all the information. Rather than asking for a donation for coming to school in non-uniform the children should bring a donation for the Friends Easter tombola which is taking place along with a Cake Sale on Wednesday 28th March between 3:00 pm and 4.30 pm.
Easter Lunch - Wednesday 28th March
There will be a change to the advertised menu on this day to celebrate Easter and we have attached the menu to this newsletter. Please order your child's lunch in the usual way ensuring you have done so by 9.00 am. The kitchen will be providing the usual jacket potatoes and pick 'n' mix lunches on this day and any child with allergies can have the Easter lunch, the kitchen can ensure all elements meet your child's needs.
After School and Lunch Clubs
We know that our children love attending lunch time and after school clubs. This term we have provided recorder and singing clubs at lunch times and a multi-skills sports club after school. We would like to offer more to our children for the summer term, if you have any ideas about what your child would enjoy please e-mail the school office.
New Indoor and Outdoor Equipment
We have just received a huge supply of new fiction and non-fiction books thanks to a very generous donation from the Friends of Nightingale for the amount of ã2,000. Our year one children said "I like the pictures, they were very funny and some were scary!" Orla "I liked having some new information books". Owl class thought it was lovely to have some shiny new books they hadn't seen before. Goldfinch class thought their new books were interesting and brilliant! Joshua B said "It's really incredible. We can learn new things and read more" and Mia thought "It's exciting because it helps us learn to read". Thank you to the Friends and the whole school community who support their valued fundraising events.
Our school iPads are well-used across all classes to support delivery of the curriculum and we have just bought 14 brand new ones with some tough protective cases so that the children and class teams can use them outdoors to capture more of the fabulous learning happening in our outdoor environments. Monty said "We will have fun learning on them", Connor said "they help us to write" and the Goldfinch class were really excited as the iPads are so much fun to use in their learning.
We are really lucky to have wonderful Nursery and EYFS outdoor environments and we are planning to invest in our KS1 environment this coming year. Investment will come from the Norwich Freemen's Charity, the Friends, the school budget and the Tesco 'Bags of Help' scheme - so get collecting those blue tokens and vote for our school.
- Don't forget to check the school calendar for details of all the events for the upcoming weeks. Please use the following link to have a look, as always we welcome any feedback. http://www.nightingale.norfolk.sch.uk/parents/calendar
- If you haven't filled in an orange password form for your child please contact the school office. If you, or whoever regularly collects your child from school, isn't collecting please give the adult who is collecting your child the password. There is no need to contact the school with any last minute changes or let us know about play dates. Obviously, if the class team had any concerns about releasing your child to an adult who did have the correct password we would always get in touch with you before releasing your child.
- Please can you ensure that your children (including those who don't attend our school) don't use the outdoor play equipment before or after school.
- When you shop in Tesco in Drayton don't forget to get your blue tokens and pop them in the Nightingale slot!!
This week the whole school attendance was 95.8%. Both Robin and Woodpecker Class won the attendance award for this week with update 98.33%. Well done! Our school attendance target is 96% so as you can see we are just under our target for this week.
Wishing you all an enjoyable weekend.
