Dear Parents,

Looking back over the term it has been busy with some changes and many achievements. The Governors and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) feel that the school is now in a stronger position and I am really looking forward to continuing our work. Our Chair of Governors has recently made the decision to step down from the Governing Body with immediate effect and our Vice Chair, Michaela Allison, is now the Acting Chair of Governors.

Local Authority Audit
I would like to share with you the highlights of a recent Local Authority audit which took place at the beginning of the month, those findings were that:

Whole School
“Pupils are happy at school and are keen to learn.”

Early Years Foundation Stage
“The Headteacher and Early Years leader have secured good improvements in the Reception and Nursery classes. Children are taught well most of the time. Their attainment rose in 2017 and was above average. However, the good drive for improvement is not yet reflected in secure and sustained improvement across all aspects of the school’s work.”

Whilst we are pleased with the improvements that we have made in the Early Years, we are also keen to make the same amount of progress for KS1.
In order to ensure that these improvements are made quickly, we now welcome Mrs Jennifer Malone-Johnstone to the School as our new Assessment for Learning Lead. With the arrival of Mrs Malone-Johnstone, we have now completed our Senior Leadership Team structure. Mrs Malone will help to support the leadership team, alongside Mrs Shepherd, Mrs Hart and myself to really focus on the areas that need improving in KS1.

Since the Local Authority audit, we have raised our expectations for teaching and learning, and I am pleased to report that this is already having a positive effect on children’s learning. However, there is still some way to go, and we are working very hard as a staff team to ensure that we give our children the best possible start to their education.

Our Valued Staff and Volunteers
On a personal note I have very much enjoyed this term and have been very well supported by the excellent team we have at the school. School life is a rich tapestry and much work goes on behind the scenes by the wonderful team of staff at Nightingale. This work is complemented by the Friends of Nightingale, and I would like to thank them for organising many events throughout the year and for raising funds for our children. My thanks also go to the many volunteers, who have given their time to help out in one way or another, and this includes the Governors who have ensured the school has a more secure future.

Staff Announcements
We say goodbye to a number of staff this term. Mr Gale, who is leaving our Pastoral team to pursue a new challenge and we wish him luck in his new role at Reepham High School. We also say goodbye to our temporary Reception teacher Mrs Bessent who leaves us at the end of this term for new adventures at Toftwood Infants. Last, but by no means least,  Mr Whitehead  leaves us at the end of term for a teaching job at Garrick Green Infant School.  We wish them all well and hope that they will stay in touch with the school.

Attendance
This week the whole school attendance was 94.01 %. Goldfinch Class won the attendance award for this week with 97.1%.
Our school attendance target is 96%, so as you can see that sadly we are below our target this week.
